Crankworx Just Dropped the 2025 Deep Summer Finalists

It’s officially sweaty season in Whistler, and Crankworx just turned up the heat with the most important news of the year (sorry, Tour de France): the 2025 Deep Summer Photo Challenge finalists are HERE.
Yes, the cameras are charged and one final wildcard spot is still up for grabs via the Pinkbike contest, so photographers everywhere are currently panic-refreshing their SD cards and their Instagram bios.
Meet the Lens-Slinging Legends
This year’s chosen five are more stacked than a Whistler lift line on a bluebird Sunday:

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, I work as a cinematographer and editor primarily in the outdoor/mountain bike space. Photo was originally the gateway to this career and is something I have always enjoyed to do on the side. I’m interested in creating unique audio visual experiences and love to blend different mediums of motion capture whether that be digital or analogue. The last 7 years I’ve leaned more into the film/analogue photo world, finding a style that blends landscape and action. I have also been mountain biking since 2010, getting hooked on eventually making it to Whistler from old movies like Seasons or NWD5 and usually make 1-2 trips to Whistler every year since 2016.

I’m a 32-year-old rider, photographer, and creative from Barcelona, Spain. My dream as a teenager was to become a professional Dirt Jumper, but unfortunately, I suffered many injuries and couldn’t continue riding at a high level. While recovering from my first knee surgery, I bought a cheap film camera and a book that taught me the basics of photography. Since 2013, I’ve been utilizing diverse mediums to shed light on the underserved disciplines of mountain biking, documenting and showcasing its culture and lifestyle from my own perspective.

I’m an Extreme Sport and Lifestyle photographer from Naramata, BC. After a big move to Pemberton BC, and a spur of the moment purchase of a used camera, I quickly found myself immersed in a world I didn’t know I would love so much. I’ve focused mostly on mountain biking and the lifestyle that comes along with it, capturing content for athletes, events such as Crankworx and brands. Outside of photos I’m continuing my studies at the Gustavson School of Business where I plan to graduate in 2026. This year my focus as a photographer is to connect more women and young people with these activities and form better relationships with the clients I work with!

Hey, I’m Taylen — an athlete and creative working at the intersection of mountain culture and visual storytelling. With a background in adventure guiding, media management, and a deep-rooted love for the outdoors, I specialize in photography, video, and digital media that captures the energy and soul of adventure.
My work is grounded in the mountain bike, ski, climb, and surf communities, and I’m passionate about creating stories that feel authentic and raw. With experience in both creative asset production and grassroots content creation, I bring a unique blend of industry knowledge and on-the-ground perspective to every project.

Has been racer, turned corporate worker, and now freelance photographer/producer. I grew up in the Bay Area east of San Francisco at the base of Mount Diablo. My first foray into photo was in middle school shooting 135 and 120 film, then I took a hiatus from photo after I started racing downhill seriously where eventually I was able to get on a world cup team. While racing Crankworx Innsbruck downhill in 2018 I suffered a severe injury where I broke my C7 and T7 vertebrae in my neck and back. Since then I went back to shooting photos for fun before eventually quitting my corporate job as a project manager for large scale renewable energy projects and diving into a career in photography and media projects as a rider.
These five have three days (August 8–10) to shoot, edit, and assemble slideshow masterpieces capturing the Sea to Sky’s ridiculous beauty, and possibly a few bro hugs too.
One of them will walk away with five grand and eternal bragging rights when the slideshows debut live at Whistler Olympic Plaza on August 12.
The Wildcard Slot: It’s Real, It’s Open, It’s Chaotic
Still want in? The Pinkbike Wildcard Contest is officially open.
If you’ve got a camera, a vision, and a questionable relationship with sleep deprivation, this is your moment.
Win, and you’ll join the final lineup like the underdog in an 80s sports movie, except instead of a training montage, you’ll be hiking up A-Line with 40 pounds of gear.
Deep Summer Goes Deep Deep

This year, it’s not just about bangers and bike park backflips.
Each photographer will take part in a guided tour at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre to ground their storytelling in the culture, land, and history of the region.
It’s not just slideshows anymore, it’s meaning, depth, and probably some tears in the beer garden.
But Wait—There's Dirt Diaries Too
Dirt Diaries returns on August 14 to complete the holy trinity of creative mountain bike chaos.
The vibe? Pure trail magic, filmed and edited into cinematic art that will make you want to quit your job, move to Pemberton, and film berms full-time.
Crankworx Turns 20 and It’s Gonna Be a Bender

From August 8–17, Whistler will host the 20th anniversary of the biggest, rowdiest, most unhinged mountain bike festival in the world.
There’ll be races, rides, parties, VIP tickets for Red Bull Joyride, and more dusty high-fives than you can count.
So whether you’re a lens lord, loam rat, or just here for the beer tent, Crankworx 2025 is calling.
See you in Whistler, bring your camera, bring your friends, and bring your best slideshow walk-up music.

Trail of the Day
Jem Mountain Biking Trail - Hurricane, Utah
PC: stevemokan
The upper section of this trail keeps you on your toes with tight, loose switchbacks that demand precision and control.
But don’t worry, the payoff comes quick as the lower section opens into a fast, flowing run that lets you feel the rush of speed.
It’s a trail that keeps you guessing, grinning, and coming back for more.
