A Brief History of Bears in Whistler Bike Park
Whistler isn’t just where dreams go to send, it's where black bears casually crash your KOM like they’ve got a season pass and zero trail etiquette.
From ripping A-Line to chilling in the village, riders are finding out that the local wildlife isn’t behind fences, it’s front row on the flow trails.
Bears, Berries & Boosted Sends
Apparently, over 50 black bears live along the Whistler–Blackcomb corridor, which (plot twist) is exactly where we keep the bike park.
Add sun-soaked tourists, dropped trail mix, and trails lined with snackable berry bushes, and you’ve got yourself a bear buffet.
Peak summer? Let’s just say your GoPro might capture more paws than pedal strokes.
Some of our favorite bear cameos:
The Uphill Bear Send:
Just a viral clip and one bear refusing to obey trail direction.
The Face-to-Face Fadeaway:
A solo meet-and-greet with a very chill juvenile bear.
No screaming, no drama - just a Canadian standoff and a mutual ghosting.
The Background Extras:
We’re all just extras in a bear documentary, apparently.
Wait... Should I Be Scared?
Nah. Black bears in Whistler are basically introverts with claws. Here’s what matters:
Ride Etiquette, But for Bears
🛠️ Pro Tip
🐾 Why It Matters
Make noise
Bears hate conversations. Talk loudly, sing badly, clap often.
Give 30–100m space
Bears need boundaries too. Respect them.
No cub-blocking
Moms are sweet until you’re between her and her baby.
Carry bear spray
It’s like air support for awkward wildlife moments.
Ride in packs
Bears hate group projects too.
Black bears are a part of Whistler’s mythical landscape.
You came for the loam, but you’ll stay for the adrenaline spike when a bear strolls across your landing zone like it owns the place (because, honestly, it does).
So next time you drop into a line, keep one eye on the trail and the other on the tree line.
You might just meet Whistler’s most iconic locals, and maybe they’ll give you the most unforgettable trail story of your life.
🦴 Respect the bears. Respect the ride. And remember: they were here first.
