If “child prodigy” feels like an overused headline, Asa Vermette’s riding makes it feel like an understatement.

At 18, he’s stringing together Hardline runs that make seasoned pros double-check their contracts.

And you can’t fake Hardline.

Wales might be grey and rainy, but this kid’s future is blinding.

Watch closely: legends don’t wait until their 30s anymore.

Bonus: Reece Wallace just checked heli-drops and airplane jumps off his bucket list.

The only thing left is “ride a bike on the moon,” and honestly, give him two years.

Wingin’ It is chaos cinema in the best way possible.

Not a bonus video folks, it’s a bike blockbuster!

Chainsaw’s Legacy Lives On at the Stevie Smith Memorial DH & VI Bike Fest

PC: Tanner Pare / Nick Thorton

Labour Day on Vancouver Island doesn’t mean BBQs, mattress sales, or pretending you’ll “finally organize the garage.”

It means Monster Mile, the Stevie Smith Memorial, and one last chance to absolutely torch your hands, lungs, and brake pads before fall.

Mount Washington’s bringing back the Canada Cup, strapping live music to the roof, throwing in a Whip Off that looks more like aerial warfare than a bike comp, and then fueling it all with raffles and patio beers.

Translation: a long weekend that would make Chainsaw proud.

PC: Tanner Pare / Nick Thorton

From August 28–September 1, the VI Bike Fest turns the mountain into an unhinged carnival of chaos.

Riders will square up with Monster Mile, a track that makes even confident pros suddenly rethink their life insurance.

It starts chill, open alpine, big views, fresh air, before quickly turning into a root-and-rock gauntlet that chews through your hands like a woodchipper.

PC: Tanner Pare / Nick Thorton

Last year, Patrick Laffey barely held it together to edge out Henry Sherry by 0.3 seconds.

Meanwhile, Ainhoa Ijurko casually embarrassed the entire women’s field with a 14-second gap.

This year? Expect the same carnage, but louder.

PC: Tanner Pare / Nick Thorton

The Stevie Smith Memorial isn’t just another stop on the circuit, it’s a full-send love letter to Canadian downhill, hosted on the home soil of the guy who changed the game.

Tianna Smith’s raffles will keep the Legacy Foundation stocked, the Whip Off will make your neck sore just from watching, and the afterparties will test whether you can celebrate harder than you can ride.

Spoiler: you can’t.

So here’s the deal, pack your goggles, your strongest excuses for missed work, and maybe an extra set of teeth.

Mount Washington’s about to go full Chainsaw, and the only way to honour Stevie’s legacy is to hold on and send it until the mountain spits you out.

Trail of the Day

TTS Mountain Biking Trail - Mt Vic, Wellington

The TTS entrance is so subtle you’ll wonder if you’re trespassing.

Then the trail immediately hits you with “advanced,” which is biker code for “good luck, bud.”

100 meters later, you’re staring at a junction that looks like a Saw movie puzzle.

You’ll cry, sweat, and then thank the trail for ruining your day in the best way.

That’s all for today folks. We hope everyone gets some saddle time out there. See you all tomorrow! 🤙
