China’s MTB Scene Goes Wild - The Send It Daily - 340

The LAST edition of the week! China’s MTB scene goes wild, jumps that defy gravity, Hunt’s wheels surviving the apocalypse, a bike so cool it might just steal your soul, and loads more for your weekend. LET'S SEND IT 👇

955 words of pure stoke.

Photo of the Day

With a line that would make most of us cry just looking at it, Volokov charges through with the kind of confidence that makes jaws drop and palms sweat.

This man rides like fear forgot his address.

Video of the Day

He came, he dug, he absolutely destroyed.

Josh Lowe grew up slicing through tight corners and loamy chaos in the UK, and somehow turned that into “yeah, I’ll send that 60-footer blind” energy.

If confidence had roots, they’d be buried deep in soggy Surrey soil.

Bonus: Science Meets Send.

The Firm took Hunt’s shiny new wheels to the woods and gave it the northern hospitality treatment - roots, rocks, roost, repeat.

The wheels held. Our nerves? Not so much.

Safe to say, if they survived this session, they’ll survive anything.

China’s Newest Sports Obsession: Mountain Biking

Riding beyond The Great Wall

Hold on tight.

China is officially on the mountain biking map, and it’s not just a fluke.

The past few years have seen mountain biking go from “What’s that?” to “I need a carbon bike NOW.”

It’s like the country went from sipping tea to ripping trails at breakneck speeds.

So, what’s the deal with this sudden love affair?

Well, it’s a mix of urban sprawl, a booming middle class, and a little thing called COVID-19 that pushed people outside.

Remember when gyms were shut down, and the only way to burn energy was by biking?

Yeah, that’s where it all started.

The Rise of the Middle Class: More Bikes, More Fun

Thanks to China’s rapidly expanding middle class, people now have more disposable income than ever before.

And there’s nothing quite like the feeling of buying a shiny new bike, not because you need it, but because you deserve it.

These days, even the average office worker in Beijing can drop a few grand on a top-tier carbon fiber bike that makes you wonder if it’s actually a spaceship disguised as a bicycle.

We're talking people like Daimon Ling, a Guangzhou-based dude who went from mahjong to mountain biking.

Yup, he switched the table for handlebars, and now he’s out there shredding on a Tommasini bike like he’s auditioning for the Tour de France.

Economic Indicators Reflecting Growth (Yeah, We're Talking About Money Now)

Turns out mountain biking in China isn’t just a passing fad like planking or TikTok dances.

People are genuinely throwing buckets of yuan at it.

By 2032, the Chinese mountain bike market is predicted to hit a wallet-busting $25.96 billion, growing faster (10.8% annually) than almost any other country.

And those electric mountain bikes?

They’re zooming uphill even quicker, set to zap from a respectable $929 million in 2024 to a shocking $1.5 billion by 2030. An 8.5% annual jolt.

Clearly, Chinese riders enjoy being assisted up climbs as much as the rest of us secretly do.

Meanwhile, even MTB apparel is getting a stylish lift.

Jerseys and shorts that make you look faster (but sadly won’t pedal for you) are projected to swell from $654.6 million in 2022 to $989 million by 2030 growing at 5.3% annually.

Guess everyone’s finally realizing that looking pro is half the battle especially when you're walking your bike downhill.

So, What’s Next?

China is rapidly becoming a mountain biking playground.

Cities like Beijing and Shanghai are transforming into outdoor hubs, offering trails and escapes from city life.

As the sport grows, expect more trails, races, and gear.

Who knows, maybe China will even produce the next world champion.

One thing’s for sure: mountain biking in China is here to stay and it's only getting more epic.

Trail of the Day

Evolution - Galbraith Bellingham, Washington

PC: Logan Ervin

Evo serves up a solid mix of jumps, ladders, and drops over half a mile of pure chaos.

Starting with doubles, it then teases you with the Stinger log ride before dropping you into a couple of quick trail-drops and a gnarly ladder drop duo.

Then, an off-camber sandstone slab slaps you in the face, followed by more doubles before you're spit out at the road.

Left turns lead to Pump Track or Unemployment Line - choose wisely!

Laugh of the Day

How liability waivers feel sometimes 😂
