Atherton Bikes: From Backyard Builds to World Cup Glory, and Maybe Some Crashes Along the Way

You know those riders who go big, win big, and somehow manage to build multiple businesses in their downtime?
Yeah, that’s basically the entire Atherton family in a nutshell.
From World Cup podiums to Red Bull Hardlines, the Athertons have been shredding the global MTB scene for years.
So naturally, when the sibling trio of Dan, Gee, and Rachel decided to start their own bike brand, it was bound to be a game-changer.
Because why not just dominate the mountain bike world from every angle?
The Start of Something Wild

It all began in 2019, when the Athertons, who are basically the royalty of mountain biking, teamed up with long-time team director Dan Brown to create bikes that would make even the most hardcore riders weak in the knees.
And no, we're not talking about those bikes that only look cool but you’d be scared to ride down the street with them.
These bikes are meant for going hard and getting dirty, or as we like to call it, "proper bike stuff".
With suspension wizard Dave Weagle and entrepreneur Piers Linney joining forces, Atherton Bikes was born.
Their goal was simple.
Make bikes that they, the very people who ride downhill with the grace of a gazelle and the speed of a... well, a very fast gazelle, would be proud to ride.
The Bikes: Built for Speed, Glory, and Perhaps a Little Trailside Drama

So, what bikes are we talking about here? Let’s break it down:
A.200.G
The downhill beast.
This bad boy is like the Batmobile of mountain bikes, except it doesn't have a turbo button, but it does have a gearbox and belt drive.
The A.200.G has been engineered to handle insane trails, steep descents, and the gnarliest mountain biking terrain on the planet.

S.170.1

An enduro bike that’s part climbing machine, part downhill monster.
This bike’s versatility is off the charts.
Whether you’re attacking trails in the Alps or fighting for your life on a local enduro course, the S.170.1’s got your back.
The geometry's dialed, the suspension's plush, and it’s basically the bike equivalent of a Swiss Army knife (if Swiss Army knives had more tires and less... cutting stuff).
S.150.1

The trail bike for when you just want to get rad without committing to a full-on identity crisis.
The S.150 is all about blending the fun of a trail ride with the ability to rip through technical sections.
It's built for those days when you can't decide if you want to take it easy or just flat-out send it. Spoiler: you’ll send it.
The Secret Sauce

Now, let’s talk about the “sciencey” stuff.
Atherton Bikes doesn’t just slap a name on a frame and call it a day.
They’re all about that next-level tech.
Imagine a world where your bike frame is made of carbon tubes and titanium lugs (fancy, right?).
That’s exactly how they do it at Atherton.

They use additive manufacturing to craft bikes with precision, giving you a frame that’s strong, lightweight, and so well engineered it might just give you a small crisis about how your bike is smarter than you.
But wait, there's more! They also bring some serious tech to the drivetrain game.
Gearboxes and belt drives? Oh yes.
Atherton has been one of just a few brands when it comes to utilizing the newest gadgets on the market.
What’s Next for Atherton? More Pedals, More Glory, More Bikes

So, where does Atherton go from here?
Well, the plan is simple.
Keep innovating, keep pushing the envelope, and keep making bikes that make us all feel like maybe, just maybe, we could be as fast as them... if we practiced more than once a month. But no pressure.
Atherton Bikes is expanding, bringing jobs to the Machynlleth area in Wales.
And if that wasn’t enough, they’re diving into the e-bike world, because clearly, they're not content just crushing things with regular bikes.
They’re going to crush it with electric ones too.
So, if you’re looking to join the ranks of riders who don’t just ride bikes, but basically have a contract with the bike gods, grab yourself an Atherton and get ready to ride like you’re the star of your own action movie.

Trail of the Day
Slippery Salmon, Alice Lake & Highlands
Back in 2019, trail wizard Curtis Bennett had a vision: connect two hilariously named trails (Hot Tuna and Man Boobs) via one spicy jump line.
Armed with a permit (secured November 2018), funding from the SORCA Community Builder grant, and a dream, Curtis called in the big guns.
From there, it was all blood, sweat, and berms, as Curtis and some trail-loving pals (plus a solid week from the trail crew) hand-shaped it into the beauty you’re about to ride.
