Les Gets has more energy than a triple espresso.

The fans are nuts, the track is madness, and somewhere in between, someone lands a trick that breaks the internet.

Chaos? Guaranteed.

Camille Balanche Calls Time on World Cup Mayhem

If downhill racing were a video game, Camille Balanche just hit “pause” on the career mode that few mortals could even dream of completing.

The Swiss powerhouse announced that the 2025 World Championships at Champéry will be her last hurrah on the World Cup circuit, a perfect finale on home soil.

And honestly, after a career littered with World Championship gold, overall titles, collarbone-crushing chaos, and brain-scrambling crashes, who could blame her?

From Late Bloomer to Mud-Slaying Monarch

.

Camille’s story reads like an underdog screenplay written by a director who loves drama: she didn’t even touch a full DH bike until she was 28.

Two years in enduro, a borrowed pair of wheels, and a shoestring budget later, she was podiuming at European Championships.

The following year, as a privateer with spare tires and sheer audacity, she punched straight into World Cup glory.

By 2020, the mud of Leogang bowed to her, crowning her World Champion, a title many assumed she “got lucky” for, but as anyone who’s seen her carve a berm knows, luck had nothing to do with it.

The Resume of Absolute Chaos

World Cups? Won 'em.

Nationals? Bagged 'em.

European titles? Check.

Collarbones broken mid-season? Multiple times, thank you very much.

Through every podium, every wipeout, and every “what just happened?!” moment, Balanche did more than survive. She dominated.

Even after a violent crash in 2023 left her brain rattled, she bounced back in 2024 to stand tall on the podium again, proving that mental blocks might slow a human, but they can’t crush Camille’s drive.

The Decision to Step Back

Racing like a superstar isn’t always about glory, it’s about thrill, and Camille admitted that after her head trauma, the thrill just wasn’t the same.

Despite being physically unstoppable, the mental “block” meant she wasn’t pushing like she needed to.

Racing safely isn’t fun for someone who made a career out of chaos, and Camille isn’t a fan of half measures.

Retirement, then, isn’t a defeat, it’s a mic-drop, a bow, a graceful exit after years of reminding the downhill world that she’s untouchable when fully unleashed.

Wrapping Up the World Cup Saga

Next week at Champéry, spectators will witness one last masterclass: Camille riding like she owns every root, every rock, every line in sight, while fans cheer, cameras flash, and rivals mutter in awe.

From privateer to World Cup legend, her trajectory has been nothing short of cinematic.

Champagne will be popped, helmets will be lifted, and history will take notes as one of downhill’s most fearless, late-blooming warriors rides into the sunset.

The Legacy

Camille Balanche celebrates at UCI DH World Cup in Lourdes, France on March 27, 2022.

Camille Balanche leaves behind a legacy of daring, grit, and trail dominance that will echo through the DH community for years.

Four national titles, a world title, European glory, and multiple World Cup wins, these aren’t just stats; they’re proof that someone can start late, work harder, and still carve a name in the annals of racing history.

Her career was messy, magical, and magnificent, and now the sport will simply have to wait for the next chaotic genius to rise.
