Video of the Day

Martin Maes just gave his Belgian backyard a full-blown spa day - minus the candles, plus 900% more roost.

The tires are screaming, dirt’s flying like it’s trying to escape, and the mic’s picking up every delicious crunch.

Bikes aren’t supposed to sound this good

Bonus: Not every ride changes your life, but some remind you exactly why you live for this sport.

This one hits different - equal parts speed and soul-searching, with roost flying and thoughts running just as wild.

Some people journal. Others ride.

This one does both, with a camera rolling and zero filter.

New Study Reveals Mountain Bikers Are Basically Rolling in Dough (and They’re Spending it on Trails)

‍

A new study has dropped the financial bombshell that mountain bikers are not just spending their weekends getting sweaty on the trails, they’re also dropping serious cash!

According to the latest report by IMBA and TPL, some of the top mountain biking destinations are raking in over $1,000 per trip per rider.

Yup, that’s not a typo.

Mountain bikers are out here living their best lives, and apparently, their wallets are too.

The study (after analyzing 50 different economic reports) found that the average mountain biker is shelling out a cool $416 per trip.

But wait, the plot thickens: one lucky biking spot in northern Wisconsin (yes, you read that right—Wisconsin!) found that bikers there are spending $1,107 per trip.

The Chequamegon area is basically the Disneyland of mountain biking, where even your tires are probably made of gold.

‍

Trail Towns: The Unsung Heroes of the Economy

But let’s not forget about the local economies getting a serious boost from this two-wheeled craze.

Vermont’s Kingdom Trails brings in a whopping $10.3 million a year from mountain bikers, and that’s just in 2016 numbers.

We all know Vermont’s economy is doing fine, but if we could add bike trails to every town, imagine the possibilities!

Meanwhile, the fine folks in Chattanooga, TN, are having a biker-induced money party too.

In 2022, mountain biking visitors dropped $7.4 million into the local economy, turning this city into a real-life version of those "visit Chattanooga and your life will be forever changed" Instagram captions.

‍

Events That Bring in the Big Bucks (aka Crankworx and the Biker’s Gold Rush)

Now, if you think the numbers above are impressive, hold onto your handlebars.

When it comes to mountain bike festivals and races, we’re talking about some serious money.

The Iceman Cometh Challenge, the U.S.’s largest single-day point-to-point mountain bike race, alone pulled in $7.2 million in direct economic impact in 2022.

That’s enough to make your head spin faster than you can say “mountain bike.”

But the real showstopper is Crankworx Whistler.

With over 300,000 attendees and a mind-blowing $38.5 million economic impact, Crankworx is the Beyoncé of mountain bike events.

Forget Coachella, this is where the party is at.

The Real Impact: More Than Just Money (But Mostly Money)

Sure, the study also talks about how mountain biking boosts physical health (saving millions in healthcare costs) and mental well-being (less stress, more “chill”).

But let’s be real: the real headline here is that mountain biking is making cities a whole lot richer.

In fact, even the indirect benefits of biking, like increased property value, new businesses, and a happier populace, are getting in on the action.

We’re just saying, if you want to build a trail, now’s the time to bring out the stats.

Let’s Build More Trails People

So, the next time you’re riding your bike, remember: you’re not just getting your fitness in.

You’re also contributing to an economic revolution, one trail at a time.

If you want more bike paths in your city, just point to this report like a mountain biking prophet, and watch the trail building commence.
