Twenty Years Since Sam Hill Took the Cover, and Took Over the World

PC: Mountain Bike Action
Let’s rewind to June 2005.
Lance Armstrong was still racing, MySpace ruled the internet, and a 19-year-old Aussie named Sam Hill was busy melting faces in the pro downhill scene.

That month, he was slapped on the cover like a prophecy, and two decades later, we’re still trying to catch up.

Back then, Sam was the kid with the Iron Horse bike and the Iron Will to match.
He’d just won back-to-back Junior DH World Champs (2002, 2003), gone toe-to-toe with the elite field in 2004, and earned a second overall in the World Cup while most of us were figuring out how to pass algebra.

By 2006, he had a rainbow jersey.
By 2010, he had three.

And because that wasn’t enough, he casually crushed the Enduro World Series from 2017 to 2019 like it was a recovery ride.

Flash forward to 2025, he’s nearly 40, still sending, and somehow even cooler than he was at 19.
This year? He hit Red Bull Hardline in Tasmania, threw down with the gnarliest pros in the biz, and walked away 18th...because retirement is for mortals.

Oh, and when he’s not descending like a heat-seeking missile, he’s designing mountain bike trails around the world.
That’s right, Sam Hill now builds what he used to break. Full circle. Full legend.
Mountain Bike Action called it back in 2005. We’re just here to say: the prophecy was real.

Welcome to the buffet of bike suffering and glory.
Whether you’re grinding your soul into a climb or blasting downhill like a caffeinated goat on rollerblades, this trail slaps.
Start at the top if you hate your brakes, or crawl up from the lake if you enjoy slow-motion leg annihilation.
Expect rocky chaos, seductive switchbacks, and jumps that whisper “you won’t.”
